“I need twenty in gas on pump two,”
I said. He rang everything up, and I paid. Before I left, I decided he could
possibly help with one other thing. Or know someone who could. “If I’m looking
for a particular motorcycle club, is there anyone who might be able to point me
in the right direction?”
“Bar down the street. It’s open
twenty-four-seven. Few guys in there might know.”
I thanked him and went out to fill
my tank. When I’d finished, I searched for the bar. The place looked empty
except for a truck and three motorcycles in the lot. I braced myself and went
inside. The interior was dark and full of smoke. I waved my hand in front of my
face.
Three bikers sat at the bar. None
were wearing club colors, and I started to wonder if I’d stopped for no reason.
Deciding I wouldn’t find out if I didn’t ask, I made my way over to them. The
oldest looked at me, his brow furrowed.
“Honey, you look lost.”
“I am. A bit. I’m trying to find
someone, and I’m not sure where to start.”
The guy straightened a little. “Who
you lookin’ for?”
“The President of the Devil’s
Boneyard. The club is in Florida, but I’m not entirely sure where.”
One man let out a low whistle.
“Girl, you don’t want to get messed up with them.”
My lips twisted a little and I
placed a hand over my belly. “Too late.”
