Announcing the release of RYCKS (BLACK REIGN MC 1)

Rycks
Marteeka Karland
(Black Reign MC, #1)
Publication date: June 11th 2021
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Lyric: I’m in so much trouble. My orders are to find the highest ranking member of Salvation’s Bane or Black Reign MCs and sleep with them. Worm my way into their bed for longer than one night so I can take back information to Kiss of Death. Little did I know I’d find the one man I could never forget. The man who broke my heart six years ago and left me to fend for myself against a ruthless club who would break me the first chance they got.

Rycks: The second I saw here I wanted to punish her. Lyric ran out on me six years ago. Not that I’d given her any reason to stay. Now, she waltzes back into my life with an agenda I can’t figure out. When I do, I can’t decide what to do. The truth is as scary as it is infuriating. Lyric is my torment. She’s sent to me as bait in a bigger plan I can’t fathom. Mainly because I’m too distracted by what she reveals. Now I’m questioning my loyalties to both her and my mentor, El Diablo. She pulls at my need to protect at the same time she might just prove herself to be a traitor.

WARNING: Contains scene of violence, explicit language, and adult situations. Rycks is the first book in the Black Reign series. While you can read it as a stand alone book, you may better understand the characters and situations if you read books in the Bones MC and Salvation’s Bane MC series.

EXCERPT:

“Look. I can’t stay here past tonight. But if I go back with something that looks important, you could control the information I’m giving them.” Was it my imagination or did he look disappointed?

“I don’t like it. I’d have to discuss it with Thorn, and he’d have to decide what you tell them, but it’s not something I want to risk.”

“It’s the only option I have.”

“Why?”

“I’m sorry?”

“Why do you have to go back, Lyric. You’re here with me now. You’re safe.”

“All you need to know is that I have to go back. I want to go back.” If the look on his face was any indication, I’d just thoroughly pissed Rycks off.

“You’re staying. End of discussion. You want to go back, you tell me why.”

“It’s personal. That’s all I’m saying so don’t ask again.”

Rycks sighed and reached for me to pull me onto his lap, straddling his hips. He stood up and turned to sit in the same chair he’d plucked me out of. Those strong hands held me still. Like I’d dare move.

“Are you telling me you want to go back to that lot? They’ll use you until there’s nothing left. I’m surprised they haven’t already. You’ll die in that place if you go back. You have to know that.”

“No. I don’t know that. Dangling information from someone high in rank at Black Reign would keep them off of me. Plus, they need me working at my job in the city. It’s the only way they’re able to get their information.”

I tried to ignore how good it felt to be in his arms again. Rycks was my first lover. He’d made me feel special despite his refusal to keep me. Even that had been because he’d thought any danger I faced wasn’t anything like what I’d face with him. I had no idea if he’d been right, but I knew where I was now was as deadly dangerous.

“You’re a damned fool,” he snapped. Then he did something unexpected. He slid his hand into the hair at the back of my head and pulled me to him. “Girl, I’m surprised they let you leave at all. Surprised they haven’t already made you a whore in the most violent way possible. It would be Rat Man who’d start with you. You know that, right?”

I shivered. Rat Man. Even saying his name gave me the creeps. The man knew no depravity he didn’t indulge in. If there was a repugnant sex act out there, chances are he’d done it.

“Yes. I can see you do know. I can also see you’re afraid.” He sighed, loosening his grip on my hair, but not letting me pull away from him. “I suppose that’s something.” With a sigh, he pulled me to him until my head rested on his shoulder. “You’re going to be a problem, I can see. Not sure the word brat even covers you.”

“Why would you call me a brat?” Maybe I was, but it was only because, for some reason, I felt safe to let that side of myself out when I was with him. Sure, he tried to come across gruff and dangerous – -and I was sure he was under the right circumstances — but I knew in my heart he wasn’t like anyone at Kiss of Death. He was a protector first. A killer only when someone he was responsible for was threatened.

“Because you’re testing me when you should be following orders.”

“Never been much good at following orders.”

“I can see that. Also,” he said, taking a deep breath, “you’ve got to tell me why your family went missing from Ismay. And why you’re the only one of them ever to turn back up.”

Keeper of Souls
Harper Ray
(The Revenant Trilogy, #1)
Publication date: June 29th 2021
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal

“What would you do if Death gave you a second chance?”

Most people who escaped death were relieved, happy to be granted that second chance at life. In my case, it was more of a curse than a blessing.

Everyday I woke, I was tortured with another soul. They all wanted something from me, but I couldn’t give it to them. Instead, I ignored them. I neglected the pain they had laced beneath their hollow eyes. I dismissed the screams that shattered my eardrums every time my head hit the pillow.

The souls took pleasure in patronizing me. They were a constant reminder of why I shouldn’t have been granted a second chance.

I had managed to escape Death twice, but the third time was my undoing. He came back with a heavy vengeance. Suddenly, I was thrown into a battle between two brothers. Heaven and Hell. Light versus Dark.

They both needed me on their side, but after facing Death for the third time, I wasn’t sure I would survive the cruel fate he had planned.

EXCERPT:

Slowly, I managed to pull myself off the hard ground, and rise to a standing position. I glanced around and noticed that all the souls I had seen earlier were gone. My lips dipped into a frown. That’s weird.

“Well, things just got…interesting, didn’t they, Ace?” the guy with dark hair taunted.

Ace sighed. “Why are you here, Deagan?”

His body was radiating an un-humanly amount of heat, so I took a few steps back, looking for an exit. The animosity between these two had me ready to bolt, but for some reason, I didn’t think Deagan would let me leave that easily.

I took another step back. Deagan took a few steps forward. There was something about him that made me want to run for the hills. He was dangerous, and that cocky smirk he had plastered on his lips told me that he knew it too.

“Where do you think you’re going, sweet cheeks?” he asked.

“Away from you,” I sneered.

His brows raised. “We’ve got a feisty one here. I like it.”

I clicked my tongue and turned around to bolt in the direction towards the exit. My ear-shattering scream filled the cemetery when Deagan materialized in front of me. I glanced behind me and back to him. “How did you do that?”

His sharp gaze was full of amusement. He was getting off on being a jackass.

A hand landed on my shoulder, pushing me back as Ace stepped between us. “I suggest you leave. You have no purpose here, Deagan.” His words came out clipped, and somehow, even I felt threatened just being in his presence.

My eyes narrowed. “I don’t need you to defend me.”

Ace glanced over his shoulder, and his gaze turned to slits.

Great, now I was on his shit list too. Why the hell was I still standing here?

“Already protecting her, huh?” Deagan pursed his lips, and the temperature outside raised the humidity twenty degrees. Sweat started leaking down my forehead.

Ace’s jaw ticked.

“Did you forget what happened the last time you interfered?”

Ace whipped his head in Deagan’s direction and crossed his arms over his chest. “The real question of the hour is what you’re doing here. We both know whose territory this is.”

Deagan’s stocky body stiffened. His obsidian gaze hardened. For a brief moment, I could have sworn I saw flames dancing in the darkness of his eyes. I shook my head, I really needed to get out of here, it seemed that I was on the verge of losing my mind.

Garden Update

So, you can see things are coming along quite nicely. Everything is a little late due to wonky weather this year, but we're still good. First is... well, I'm not sure. lol (this is my husband's department. I supervise.) I think it's beans. There are some pepper plants at the end of the row... somewhere. More beans (different variety) cucumbers, cantaloupe and watermelon.

Next is a big bunch of wild flowers. Hubbs planted them ALL together and what you're seeing are sunflowers. They're pretty much taking over. BUT if we get sunflower seeds... yeah. All good. :)

Next one by the tractor is potatoes. You can also see the purple cabbage (other cabbage is already harvested and, God willing, we'll be making sour kraut this evening. There is also Onions and the very tail end of the strawberry bushes. (Which were TOTALLY AWESOME this year! I think we got close to twenty gallons off them this year. Hoping for the same next year!

Last is actually on the other side of the garden. Pics got out of order and I'm too lazy to try to fix them. lol There is corn (that struggled but is now doing better) and red potatoes. You might notice a little spot in the right lower corner of the garden where the potatoes stop. That spot has been picked because we've already been eating. :D New potatoes are THE BESTEST! The bit bare spot has corn planted. We stagger it so it comes up a few weeks later for ease of working in. You don't have to do so much at once.

Anyway. My little slice of heaven.

Justice: Salvation's Bane MC 8

Justice (Salvation’s Bane) by Marteeka Karland
Published by Changeling Press
#mcromance #newadult #romanticsuspense

“I’m surprised your lawyer isn’t present for this.”

“Far as I know, I don’t have one.”

“Well, someone took up the cause. Must have a good mind, too, to get that conviction overturned so quickly”

“Quick? If you call eight years quick, you’re older than you look.”

Surprisingly, that got a sharp bark of laughter from the judge. “Considering the family involved and the fact that Florida doesn’t like looking bad in legal matters, yeah. I’d call it quick. Are you telling me you’ve never met the lawyer who filed this on your behalf?”

“I’m sayin’ I didn’t know anything was being done on my behalf in the first Goddamned place.” Justice glanced at the bailiff. Sure enough, the man winced at his language. There was no way to stop the smirk Justice threw the other man’s way. He loved goading easy marks.

The judge had opened his mouth to say something when there was a commotion outside the chamber doors just before they burst open. A short, busty woman in four-inch heels stumbled through the door. She carried a briefcase with several pieces of paper sticking out, and her hair, which probably was supposed to be in a tight bun, was sticking out in several directions in jet-black, kinky curls. No. Curls wasn’t exactly right. They wanted to be curls, but they were mostly a frizzy mess. The glasses she wore were too big for her elfin face, her eyes the color of perfect sapphires. She wore a white blouse tucked into a black skirt. The blouse hung from her arms but stretched tightly across her breasts, and her skirt gapped at the waist, but looked like she was barely able to squeeze that generous ass into it. She carried a suit jacket draped over one arm as she caught the door with the other hand to keep from falling. All in all, she was a hot mess.

“Judge Harlan!” She stumbled once more, then righted herself and hurried to the front of the courtroom… to stand beside Justice? What the fuck?

Judge Harlan gave a long-suffering but amused sigh. “Mae Stephens. I should have known you were behind this.”

The girl, Mae, hesitated, putting her stuff on the desk in front of her. “Behind what? Did I do something wrong?”

The bailiff snorted. Which kind of pissed Justice off. This Mae couldn’t have been much into her twenties and looked as innocent as they came. Right now, she looked confused and unsure of herself.

“No, my dear,” Judge Harlan replied immediately. It was the only thing that saved the man from a tongue lashing. Making this girl feel bad had seriously jeopardized his position in Justice’s list of favorite people. Short list that it was. “Nothing wrong. It’s just that you always seem to show up in the middle of unusual cases. Always the one working to free someone from prison.”

“Well, innocent people shouldn’t be locked up. And Mr. Creed was innocent.”

“Not sure about that, Miss Stephens. But you did uncover some pretty massive problems within the DA’s office. A word of advice, though, and I mean this in the most sincere way possible. You’re a good girl. I don’t want to see you hurt.” He glanced at Justice, and Justice got the impression he wanted him to pay attention to what he had to say as much as he wanted Mae to. “You’ve made some powerful people look bad. Cost one of them his livelihood and another one his freedom. Lay low for a while. Don’t work on any more Innocence Projects for a while, or whatever it is you do. This one could very well cost you more than you’re willing to pay.”

Yeah. Justice got the message loud and clear.

“If that’s true,” Mae said, regaining her confidence, “it’s no more than they deserve. They broke the law just as much as they said Mr. Creed did. And by giving him a life sentence, they took his life away just as much as they said he took the life of someone else. At least he allegedly did it for the right reasons. Vigilantism isn’t a good thing, but sometimes it’s all the little people have.”

Judge Harlan sighed. “You’re too much of an idealist for your own good, Mae. Just… be careful. I like you very much and don’t want to have to preside over someone accused of hurting you.”

Mae shook her head. “You won’t, sir. You’re too good a judge not to recuse yourself if it comes to that.”

“Are you for fuckin’ real?” Justice couldn’t hold back any longer.
